February meeting 2022

A superb talk from David Rankin of Kevock Garden Plants explaining what goes into taking their wonderful displays to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show each year. It was quite a revelation and we all felt huge admiration for the hard work they put in.  Their efforts were rewarded with a Gold Medal at this year's Show.

March meeting 2022

Guest speaker Dr Stan da Prato returned to the Society to give a typically informative talk on the delights of growing Spring bulbs for the garden and for greenhouse displays. Stan brought along some beautiful pots of some familiar and some more unusual examples for us to admire.

Inter-village Quiz - Monday 11th April

The Inter-village quiz was hosted by Musselburgh Horti at St Michael's Church Hall, Dalrymple Loan, Musselburgh. There was a good turnout from several local societies on the night. Dalkeith Horti won the quiz and it was a most enjoyable evening.

PLANT SALE & COFFEE MORNING - Saturday 14th May 10 am-12 noon

The annual plant sale was held in the Callander Pavillion. A good selection of plants alongside summer bedding plants sold very well and the teas also proved popular, giving people a chance to catch up for a good chat.

Planning for this year's Show is well under-way. The Schedule has been issued giving details of the various classes so hopefully there is something for everyone. The Schedule of Classes can be downloaded from the Annual Flower Show page of the website and paper copies are available from the Committee.

The Summer Picnic will again be held at Preston Hall Walled Garden on Sunday 10th July 2-5pm . Please bring whatever food and drinks you wish, together with a picnic rug or chair to sit on. Photographs of the walled garden are still available under the Gallery entitled 2021 Summer Picnic.

The June garden visit took place on Wednesday 22nd at 2pm to a garden called A Blackbird Sings in Longniddry. This interesting suburban garden has been created by the owners to show specific groups of plants in a series of borders and beds, with ponds of differing sizes creating a delightful peaceful atmosphere. There were around a dozen members attending on what turned out to be a glorious, warm, sunny and most enjoyable afternoon.

A selection of Members' photographs and previous Garden Visits are still available under the Gallery page.
